Julia Ferris is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist and composer with over 20 years of violin experience. She studied violin performance and composition at Luther College and participated in both of Luther’s highest level orchestras, as well as playing in several quartets. In 2015 she won the LYSO Concerto Competition and in 2019 she was awarded Luther College’s Research Assistantship Grant to study and compose music. Later that year she performed her piece “Prairie Hymn” at the Iowa Composer’s Forum. Julia also enjoys composing electronic and electroacoustic music as well as programming her own digital synthesizers.
Julia began teaching and tutoring in 2014. As a teacher, she is passionate about technique and proper form. She is also a proponent of the Suzuki Method. Her favorite part of teaching is watching her students grow into well rounded musicians as they sharpen their abilities and develop their own love of music.
